The Middle East Broadcasting Corporation is to exclusively broadcast the international Live 8 event, to be held on July 2 in five cities around the world.

The corporation will broadcast the 11-hour mega-event to Middle East viewers from 1pm to 11 pm (GMT).

"The Middle East Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has been selected to broadcast this historic event thanks to the trust established in its brand across the world.

"This selection also confirms, and will foster MBC 4's position as a leading entertainment channel across the Middle East," Mohammad Al Mulhem, Director of Marketing, Public Relations, and Commercial, MBC, said.

Twenty years ago, the music industry was able to educate a whole generation in the United States and Europe about the reality of hunger and poverty in Africa through the Live Aid concert, We are the World. This year, the music industry is presenting the largest live show in the world, not for charitable reasons, but to spread justice.

The Live 8 event is not aim at raising funds, but rather to push the governments of the US and Europe to draw a historic plan in tandem with African leaders to combat Aids, extreme poverty and corruption.

The G8 summit was behind Bob Geldoff's idea for the Live 8 show in each capital city of the G8 countries.

July 2 will see Elton John, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Pink Floyd, Robby Williams, Scissor Sisters, Sting, Cold Play, Razorlight and Joss Stone among others sing in London's Hyde Park.

The US show will be held at the renowned Philadelphia Arts Museum, where the Live Aid campaign took place 20 years ago.

Pop stars including Will Smith, Destiny's Child, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews Band, and Maroon 5, and Kaiser Chiefs will perform.

In Europe, Brian Wilson, Green Day, Die Toten Hosen, Lauryn Hill, Peter Maffay, and Crosby will sing from the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany. From Paris' Arch of Triumph, Johnny Halliday, Andrea Bocelli, and Manu Chao, Graig David, Axelle Red, and Youssou N'Dour will present a live concert. From Rome Duran Duran, Faith Hill, Irene Grandi, Laura Paussini, and Vasco Rossi will perform.
