MUSCAT (ONA) - Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al Maliki left here yesterday after a two-day visit to the Sultanate during which he held wide-ranging talks with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, led the farewell party to see off the Iraqi premier and his delegation on departure.
Also to bid Maliki good-bye at the airport were: Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs; Sayyid bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers; Mohammed bin Ali bin Nasser al Alawi, Minister of Legal Affairs; Shaikh Hilal bin Khalid al Mawali, Minister of Civil Service; Dr Jumaa bin Ali al Jumaa, Minister of Manpower and Dr Rajha bint Abdulameer bin Ali, Minister of Tourism, as well as Iraq's Ambassador to the Sultanate and senior officers of Royal Oman Police and the Sultan's Armed Forces.
The Iraqi Prime Minister stressed that his meeting with His Majesty the Sultan and HH Sayyid Fahd was characterised by an open atmosphere and deep expression of the two sides' will to build solid relations of fraternity between the two countries, adding that his meeting with His Majesty the Sultan paved the way for future ties that match the Sultanate's wise and balanced position of always providing balanced and justified support to people in the region and the Arab world.
Al Maliki told Oman News Agency (ONA) that he appraised His Majesty the Sultan about the political experiment in Iraq and achievements of the Iraqi people with regard to constitutional, parliamentary and political elections aimed at building a new Iraq on the basis of democracy, freedom, equity and partnership and doing away with discrimination and marginalisation of the one-party rule.
Al Maliki added that he briefed His Majesty on security developments and the successes in the government's plan to impose law and order and its pursuit of building process as well as facing the challenges posed by terrorism. The Iraqi premier was accompanied by a delegation comprising Jawad al Bolani, Interior Minister; Dr Rafi al Issawi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Mowafaq Al Rubaiei, National Security Adviser; Shaikh Dr. Hammam Hamoudi, Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee at the Council of Representatives; Sadiq Al Rikabi, Political Advisor to the Iraqi Premier; Yassin Majeed, Information Adviser to the Premier; Dr. Ali al Dabaqh, Official Spokesman of the Government; Muiz Al Khateeb, Head of Arab Department at the Foreign Ministry and Abdul-Rasoul Kadhim Alloush, Iraq's Ambassador to the Sultanate.
