KUWAIT, March 5 (KUNA) -- A graduation ceremony of the first batch of the Arab Open University was thrown here Monday under the aegis of His Highness Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
During the graduation ceremony, the university graduates received graduation certificates from Saudi Prince Talal Bin Abdul-Aziz, chairman of the university board of trustees.
Emerging from the ceremony, the Kuwaiti prime minister said he was happy at the graduation of the first group of the Arab Open University, and thanked Prince Talal Bin Abdul-Aziz and the university staff for their efforts in this great field to serve generations to come and the entire Arab world as well.
For his part, Prince Talal hailed the graduation of the first batch of the university, urging the graduates to continue success in their practical lives and wishing them a bright future.
He also thanked His Highness Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Sabah for the sponsorship of the graduation ceremony, which, he said, bespeaks Kuwait's keenness to support and stimulate Arab human development.
The Arab Open University, where a total of 20,000 male and female students have been registered, is doing its best to raise the Arab educational level through its all its six branches.
The Arab Open University was founded in 2002 in Kuwait, Jordan, and Lebanon. One year later it opened other branches in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
The AOU has in place confirmed agreements of cooperation and affiliation with the well-reputed UK Open University (UKOU). Agreements with the UKOU cover three major areas: Licensing of Materials, Consultancies, Accreditation and Validation.
It was established as a private university for Arabic speaking citizens in these countries. It has the following faculties: Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Language Studies (English language), and Faculty of Information Technology and Computing.
