Addressing a symposium opened by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Muhammad al-Ahmad al-Sabah, al-Sanousi said Kuwait was trying to achieve the revival for a long time through modernization of the cultural infrastructure.
The symposium is being organized by Al-Arabi magazine under the title of "Role of Cultural Magazines in Cultural Reform".
Al-Sanousi, also chairman of the National Council for Culture and Arts, added he took pride in al-Arabi magazine and the cr}me de la cr}me of intellectuals and media people attending the three-day event.
He underscored the significance of the theme of the symposium, noting that cultural reform turned to be an Arab urgent demand.
Besides updating the material infrastructures, development in its comprehensive perspective aims to change the traditional concepts relating to work and production and enhance the positive modern tendencies, the minister pointed out.
Democratization is a kind of cultural and intellectual transfer that recognizes diversity and differences while asserting coexistence, the freedom of opinion and the rights of minorities, he explained.
Al-Sanousi pointed out that his government allocated plots of land for new museums and cultural complexes that would serve the Kuwaiti citizens and residents.
Construction works will start in Jaber al-Ahmed Cultural Complex on a area of 50.000 square meters downtown Kuwait. The project consists of an opera house, specialized theaters, permanent and periodical book fairs, and child culture facilities.
Plans are being finalized for the initiation of Abdullah al-Salem Cultural Complex that will include the Islamic Antiquities House, historical and archaeological museums plastic art exhibitions, and Abdullah al-Salem Library, he disclosed.
The Information Ministry will build a new premise for al-Arabi magazine in recognition of its cultural role on the local and Arab levels, according to the minister.
He thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the sponsor of modern cultural revival in Kuwait and sponsor of al-Arabi magazine since its early days.
For his part, Sulaiman al-Askari, chief editor of al-Arabi, praised H.H. Prime Minister Nasser al-Mohammad al-Ahmad al-Sabah for his care for and interest in the cultural activities in Kuwait.
He expressed gratitude for H.H. the Amir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, the founder of Al-Arabi, who turned Kuwait into an oasis of freedom and dialogue.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of Egypt's Higher Council of Culture Jabir Asfour addressed the opening session of the symposium on behalf of Arab participants in the event.
He expressed happiness for his presence in Kuwait, noting that the participation of Arab intellectuals in the event indicated the role of al-Arabi in the cultural process in the Arab world.
During the opening session of the symposium a number of Arab cultural magazines were honored including al-Helal, al-Adaab, al-Arab, Ketabat, Alam al-Kifr, al-Manar and al-Resala.
