RIYADH, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's football team will meet on Monday its Qatari counterpart in the first GCC Olympic teams' championship held here in the Stadium of Prince Faisal bin Fahad.
The "blue team" is looking forward to gain the first match three points as an aspired motivation to keep on competing to regain the glory of the Kuwaiti football team.
Despite absence of key players, the team's players have expressed determination to make a difference in the encounter with the Qataris.
Their mission will be, certainly, not easy in front of the Qatari team which also aspires to achieve the championship title and prove its qualification for Beijing finals, with the tough competitors -- Japan, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.
The Qatari team is also suffering from absence of experienced players, but it still has competitive players.
The Kuwaiti team coach, Fauzi Ibrahim, in remarks to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), stressed that winning the first game will be "the team point of departure to grab the championship's title."
He said the team still has a good chance to please the fans and restore the glory of the Kuwaiti football.
Ibrahim also noted that both the technical and administrative staff "are doing a great job to rehabilitate the players in order to face their competitors with confidence."
The championship is due to open Sunday evening under the auspices of Prince Sultan Bin Fahad, President of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare (GPYW), and his Deputy Prince, Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz.
