ISLAMABAD, March 28 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Football team Wednesday night maintained their top position of table by beating Pakistan with three goals (3-0) in the first leg clash of 29th Olympic Games Football Tournament (OGFT), held at the Punjab Stadium in eastern city of Lahore.
First half of the match saw untiring efforts by Pakistani team players but luck eluded when the first and second goals were struck by striker Hamad Alenezi, who enjoys the record of making goal in almost every match.
The first interval ended with 2-0. Bader Al-Motawaa, scored the third goal in the final minutes of the second half of the match, ending the match in favour of Kuwait.
The chief guest of the match was President of Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah and he was accompanied by Pakistan State Oil's Deputy General Manager Rustom H. Mavalvala, Pakistan Olympic Association's President Gen. Arif Hassan and Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) officials.
Kuwait is ranked 84th in FIFA (Federation International Football Association) World Ranking as compared to Pakistan's 170th.
This was the first match a Kuwaiti Football team has played on Pakistani soil in the last 18 years.
The last encounter between the two countries was way back in 1989 when Kuwait beat Pakistan 1-0 at Islamabad.
