Petroleum sector to have vacancies in security dept
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Owners of trucks, yachts and speedboats are currently facing a dilemma due to the decision of diesel providers to limit distribution to 500 liters for each buyer after discovering that diesel is being smuggled to Iraq, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting sources.
It has been reported diesel is being smuggled to Iraq by land through the Abdally Border, particularly the section for military vehicles going to Iraq, and by sea as some owners of speedboats sell diesel to Iraqi boats within the Kuwaiti territorial waters. Sources revealed the decision has led to the emergence of a black market selling diesel.
According to a logistics company owner, his company has incurred huge losses due to the rationing of diesel and his clients complain about the delays, forcing the company to pay the corresponding fines. He warned the implementation of the development plan will be negatively affected because of the difficulties faced by trucks and lorries transporting construction materials. He revealed the truck owners have resorted to black market to cover their fuel needs even if they know it is illegal.
Meanwhile, a yacht owner expressed his fear of a looming crisis due to the unavailability of diesel in the main stations for 10 days. He said this indicates the concerned authorities' failure to meet their fuel needs.
Meanwhile, Minister of Oil Dr Mohammad Al-Busairi has disclosed that the petroleum sector will soon advertise vacancies in the Safety and Security Department due to dire need of security officers in all companies in the sector, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Kuwaitis holding secondary school certificate will be eligible for the posts.
Al-Busairi made the declaration Wednesday during a get together organized by the Oil Services Company (OSCO) at the Regency Hotel. Senior officials in the oil sector, Chairman of the Petroleum Workers Union Abdul-Aziz Al-Sharthan and other union leaders in the sector attended the event. The minister said selected candidates will undergo a training course shortly after acceptance and will be distributed among the companies depending on their needs. He affirmed that salary increment proposals were accepted due to concerted efforts by union leaders, employees and senior officials in the sector.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) signed an agreement with a Russian company for supply of about 25,000-30,000 barrels of unleaded petrol, a source told Al-Rai daily.
The source said reports concerning reserves of oil products, including petrol, are inaccurate. He cited a recent report released by the State Audit Bureau which stated that reports at the local marketing sector showed multitude of lapses in the system.
