XPress Telecommunications, Jordan's exclusive provider of wireless and mobile technology, was recently granted a digital trunking license in Palestine similar to the license it holds in Jordan. XPress was granted this license after placing the highest bid of $3.1 million on a radio trunking tender issued by Palestinian Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology in June 2006.
This license will allow XPress to bring in updated telecommunications solutions to the Palestinian territories.
The operation of the network will be initially implemented by members from the XPress team along with a specialized team from Palestine, who will also be employed and trained at XPress' headquarters in Amman.
Chairman of XPress Telecommunications Mr Tarek Al-Aggad said, "It is a great pleasure for us at XPress to be expanding our operations. We look forward to entering the dynamic arena offered by the Palestinian telecommunications sector, which is a natural extension to the Jordanian market given the strong relationship between the two populations.
Mr Nayef Alnadi, CEO of XPress International, said, "Besides satisfying the country's need for new communications solutions, XPress will also contribute to the transfer of technical know how to Palestine, provide several local job opportunities in various sectors, and contribute to the national treasury by providing financial returns to the government from sharing in earnings, taxes and other fees."
