The Jordan Railway Master Plan was completed and would be announced within this week, Minister of Transport Alaa Batayneh said on Sunday.

The minister added that a number of important decisions in terms of financing and executing the project, whose bids would be launched in the fourth quarter of 2010, would be taken soon.

Batayneh told Petra that the project's environmental studies are at the final stages, noting that a number of scenarios are now being considered; whether to implement the project at once or in phases.

The $5 billion project, he said, would include logistics centers in the Kingdom's northern, central and southern areas, adding it would be dedicated to transporting containers and passengers.

The railway would then connect the Kingdom with neighboring countries to facilitate movement of goods and passengers through 100,000 km of railway networks across regional countries.

The Arab World is in the planning process to build a railway network across the Arab countries in the first stages, with future plant to link with Europe to ease movement of passengers and goods.
