AMMAN (JT) --  HRH Princess Muna received on Tuesday an honorary doctorate in science from Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland for her work championing nursing and women's rights.  

The doctorate was awarded to Princess Muna during the university's annual graduation ceremony in recognition of her efforts in the fields of health and nursing and in serving the international community, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the ceremony, the Princess met with the university's Principal and Vice Chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies, deans of colleges, faculty members and students, including Jordanian and Arab nursing students. 

In 2003, the Spanish University of Valencia also awarded the Princess an honorary doctorate degree in nursing in recognition of her efforts towards developing the nursing profession in Jordan

Princess Muna, one of the most prominent leaders in the field of health and nursing worldwide, is patron of World Health Organisation Nursing and Midwifery in the Middle East and Mediterranean Region. 

She is the President of the Jordanian Nursing Council, which is entrusted with creating and implementing national health strategies relating to nursing, while upgrading and regulating the profession.

Glasgow Caledonian University is Scotland's fourth largest university.
Though its history dates back to 1875, Glasgow Caledonian was officially formed in 1993 with the merger of Glasgow Polytechnic and The Queen's College, Glasgow, according to its official website.

Since then, the university has established a reputation for providing innovative, career-focused programmes in the areas of business, health and science and technology.
