Mahabad, West Azarbaijan - Fruit production in this northwestern city is to rise by 52% this year, said an official in the Agricultural Jihad Office.
"We estimate that 81,152 tons of various fruits will be collected from an area of 7,000 hectares this year," Hossein Azizi implied. Besides good weather, farmers' improved technical knowledge is regarded as a main factor contributing to the agricultural output increase in Mahabad. Mahabad's main fruits include pears, apricots, apples, peaches, cherries, tomatoes, nuts and plums. Mahabad will export some 60,000 tons of the total fruit production to other provinces.
