Organisers push for preservation of the breed and increase in numbers

Inaugural meet vows to protect identity of Arabian race horses

Abu Dhabi The inaugural World Arabian Horse Racing Conference was declared a success and the next edition will now be held in the Netherlands next year.

The conference was organised by the Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival, under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Sami Al Bu Nain, International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Authorities (IFAHR) chairman, hailed the inaugural event and said the Dutch Arabian Racing Federation had come forward to stage the next conference.

The organisers, meanwhile in a press release said the conference agreed to push for the increase in numbers and breeding of Arabian horses, but with the preservation of its identity as the one constant factor.

“The Arabian race horse has and should have its own identity. We are not against any other type or breed of horse but our only aim is the increase [in numbers of] Arabian race horses ensuring that they remain within this domain of their identity,” the organiser’s communique added.

agreed objectives

n The conference recommended that all concerned should work together to increase the base of Arabian race horses.

n An increase in prize money will boost the breeding programmes.

n Arabian horse racing should continue to grow in a professional way.

n The conference will ensure that decisions are taken at the right time after careful analysis of data, studies and statistics.

n The conference is keen that one international concept is followed in breeding of Arabian horses and at the centre of this concept should be the preservation of the identity of the Arabian horse, the communique said.
