MUSCAT -- Haya Water's GM Project, Said bin Rashid al Asmi has made an address to the Oman Projects Conference organised by MEED (Middle East Economic Digest) outlining the progress and vital importance of the company's pioneering water reuse Project. Speaking to conference delegates he explained that progress was on schedule in delivering a world class water reuse system to the people of the Muscat Governorate and demonstrating Haya Water's commitment to making Muscat a better city. Some of the key projects under execution include the Sea outfall, New Tanker STP, Al Ansab Expansion Phase 2, Darsait STP, Al Amerat STP and Networks, Seeb STP and Networks.
Already over 20 per cent of properties in Muscat are linked to the system that will replace the smelly and outdated septic tank system and the need for the system of yellow tankers coming to properties to remove waste water. In his speech Said told Conference delegates that an estimate of over 70 per cent of properties would be connected to the system by 2018 when the main urban areas of Muscat Governorate will be online and able to benefit from the water reuse project. Upcoming projects of Haya include Madinat Sultan Qaboos Rehabilitation, Interim Expansion projects, Network for Bausher area (B8), Network for Ghala area, Treated Effulent (TE) at Al Bustan area, Head office expansion and Wetland visitors area.
He explained that Haya Water has invested in world class technology that has included the construction of the biggest ever submerged membrane bioreactor plant at Al Ansab that was the final phase in the production of treated effluent from wastewater collected. The GM Project explained: "From the very outset we have positioned this as a project that has as its ultimate objective generating as much water as possible that can be reused for irrigation purposes and to help Oman meet its challenging water targets in the future."
