RIYADH: Germany will grant 130 scholarships to officials working in the Ministry of Health to study in universities in Berlin.

"The offer for scholarships was made by the visiting Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit during a meeting with Health Minister Abdullah Al-Rabeeah on Sunday," said Dr. Khaled Al-Mirghalani, the ministry's spokesman.

The officials will pursue their relevant studies at The Charité-Universitätsmedizin and Vivantes Network for Health GmbH in Berlin.

Al-Mirghalani said the officials would be following courses in various specialized areas according to the medical needs of the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Klaus Wowereit expressed his strong desire to strengthen relations between German universities and medical companies and the Ministry of Health.

Besides training opportunities and scholarships, the meeting with the health minister focused on Germany's readiness to facilitate visits of German physicians to Saudi Arabia, for development of the e-health programs in the ministry, bolstering cooperation in the operation of hospitals in the Kingdom, exchange of expertise and involvement in medical research within the framework of bilateral cooperation.

The Charité-Universitätsmedizin is a large public institution with a yearly turnover of 1 billion euros.
