Fujairah port has been awarded compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code No. 0904.

"The compliance was granted to the Port of Fujairah due to its approved port security plan, its outstanding facilities and for being one of the important ports in the UAE and the only seaport on the country's East Coast, along with its position as one of the three most important bunkering centres after Singapore and Rotterdam," a source said.

"The port's strategic location has helped attract major container lines with regular calls by ships delivering cargo for the UAE market or for transhipment on feeder vessels to the inner Gulf, Indian subcontinent or Africa," he said.

With a draft of 15 metres, the port can accommodate the latest generation of container vessels. Shoreside equipment includes six gantry cranes, four of which are Post Panamax.

The container yard, which has a storage capacity for up to 30,000 TEUs, operates with 11 rubber tyred gantry cranes, supplemented with 12 toploader forklift trucks to handle full containers and five sideloader empty container handlers.
