The head of the French expedition team from the University of Lyons, France, Dr Pierre Lombard, is on a visit to Bahrain to finalise a new publication on Bahrain Fort, writes Naila Barakat. During his weeklong stay in Bahrain, he will work on research on various findings at the fort.
The new publication on the fort will include details on recent findings and its study, the head of archaeology and collection at Bahrain National Museum. Khalid Al Sendi, said. "Dr Lombard will go through previous books and references about the fort and its findings such as pottery and other artefacts.
"After collecting the information, he'll go back to France, and compare with the studies he has conducted there," Al Sendi said. He said Dr Lombard and his team had been working at the fort for a long time. Their last excavation early last year was to discover the third and fourth layers of middle and late Dilmun era cities. T
he two strata were part of six which were not completely unearthed during the last excavation due to bad weather in April 2002. "In his last excavation mission with three team members, Dr Lombard excavated the vicinity where the two cities existed." The expedition is preparing a report of their 10-year excavation at the fort. The report will assist the French team to work on their new publication that will take at least two to three years to complete.
