BEIRUT: Electricite du Liban (EDL) said Wednesday that it has issued 1,195 fines to citizens involved in electricity theft in the month of October alone. It warned that authorities will continue their campaign to stamp out electricity theft across the country. The fines were distributed in the following areas: Beirut and its suburbs, 325 fines; Mount Lebanon and its surroundings, 178 fines; North Lebanon, 224 fines; South Lebanon, 355 fines; Bekaa Valley, 113 fines. EDL reminded citizens to facilitate the work of the company’s staff and preserve all the facilities for their own good. The company warned that it will prosecute any person who connects cables illegally to the electricity network. It also called on subscribers to settle all their outstanding electricity bills or the company will be obliged to cut off their power supply. – The Daily Star
