Dozens of dignitaries and ambassadors have visited the Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi to sign a book of condolences for the victims of the Malaysia Airlines crash.

Ambassadors and representatives of UAE-based embassies representing countries around the world, including Ukraine, Mexico, Egypt and South Africa, expressed their sympathy for the victims and families of the tragic incident.

"Please accept our sympathy, although this is one of the hardest experiences possible and words of comfort are difficult to find," wrote a representative from the embassy of Chile.

"I hope the people responsible for this horrible crime are brought to justice," wrote the deputy head of mission from the embassy of Mexico.

The condolence book is set on a table beside a bouquet of white flowers, a model of a Malaysia Airlines plane and a document that lists the names of the 298 people who lost their lives on flight MH17.

A spokesperson from the embassy said that 23 messages have been penned so far.

No members of the public have come forward yet to sign the book.
The book will be available to sign until Wednesday between 10.30am and 1pm. A spokesperson for the embassy said that the book will also remain available for the public to sign after that date.

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine last Tuesday. All 298 people aboard the flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur - 283 passengers and 15 crew - were killed.
