JEDDAH - Clarins, a French luxury cosmetics company which manufactures prestige skincare, makeup and fragrances products, launched in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday its much-awaited anti-aging product which was a big hit in the European market when it was unveiled two months ago.
Clarins' latest skincare product called "Double Serum" was introduced at an event held at Qasar Asharq function hall in Jeddah, attended by more than 35 "Saudi VIP ladies, among others, who have also attended the product demonstration conducted by Clarins international trainer Mademoiselle Cecile Baron from France in two events organized on Tuesday.
In an interview with the Saudi Gazette, Clarins country manager for Saudi Arabia Ammar Al-Mubarak expressed high optimism that Double Serum will attract the interest of both women and men in the Kingdom due to its "effective and amazing" tangible results regardless of the skin type.
When the product was launched in Europe two months ago, Al-Mubarak said, the consumer response was "magnificent" as some 47,000 units of Clarins Double Serum were sold in just one month "beyond the 35,000 targeted" by the company in the same period.
He noted that the beauty care industry in the Kingdom is robust, though he can't quantify the size and value due to the presence of black market. Asked to elaborate on the impact of black market on the industry, he said its effect on cosmetics is "less as compared to perfumes because cosmetic products, especially the luxury ones, is hard to imitate due to its composition."
A research by Euromonitor International last year said the market for skin care products in the Kingdom is set to grow at healthy rates to be worth SR1.83 billion by 2014, with growth in 2010 having registered almost 10 percent.
Mounting personal incomes are being utilized heavily for sophisticated skincare routines and the purchase of premium skincare products, the study showed, noting that skin whitening products and anti-ageing creams and lotions are the traditionally high selling items in the Saudi market.
Against this backdrop, Al-Mubarak further said that the Double Serum, which has a tag prize of SR450, has a very promising response in the local market, as it is recommended for persons "25 years old and above, regardless of skin types." "It can be used in all weather and climate conditions," he added.
Mademoiselle Baron pointed out that the anti-aging Double Serum is approvingly accepted by the women who attended the two demonstration sessions she held.
Clarins' new anti-aging Double Serum is so-named for the two separate hydric and lipidic formulas dispensed with each pump, one for oil and the other for water and plant extracts, Al-Mubarak explained.
More than just a serum, the new product is the only intensive anti-ageing treatment rich in 20 pure plant extracts that boosts the skin's vital functions, he added, saying that the skin visibly regains youthful look and firmer after using the product. Double Serum is dermatologically tested and proved non-comedogenic.
Montasser Al-Rashidy, a media consultant, who has also tried the product, said he felt that his skin "becomes firmer and has more even tone with less visible pores after trying the groundbreaking serum. I highly suggest adding this product to one's skincare routine as prevention is the best defense." He further said that Double Serum will definitely gain wider acceptance once it is made available in the Saudi market early next week.
Clarins Double Serum is exclusively distributed in Saudi Arabia by the Jeddah-based Sara Group.
In the survey conducted recently, Al-Mubarak added that "90 percent of women in the Middle East endorsed Clarins Double Serum as more effective than other replacement serums."
