KUWAIT CITY, Nov 7
State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Health Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah has asked MP Hussein Al-Quwaian to clarify the interpellation request submitted against him, says National Assembly Speaker Marzouk Al-Ghanem. Affirming he received the minister's request and referred it to the concerned lawmaker, Al- Ghanim said the interpellation against Sheikh Mohammad will be included in the agenda of the legislative session slated for Nov 12. He pointed out the bylaws of the Parliament allow ministers subjected to grilling to request for postponement if they wish, since the 14-day grace period will not be completed until that session. He added the government has not requested for special sessions to discuss any issue until now.
Meanwhile, the Education, Guidance and Culture Affairs Committee has asked the Parliament to look into the Jaber and Al- Shadadiya university projects, as well as the accreditation of university certificates obtained from abroad. Committee Chairman MP Humoud Al- Hamdan disclosed they invited government representatives to the next meeting to tackle the audio-visual and publication draft bill. He said the panel wants to hear the government's explanation of the bill. On the priorities of the committee, Al- Hamdan asserted they will focus on the young generation, starting from nursery until graduation, to ensure that the youths have a competitive edge in the labor market. He said they want to ensure the production of best graduates, while encouraging the youths to specialize in fields needed by the labor market and maintaining the high educational standard.
Furthermore, MP Yakoub Al-Sanei presented a proposal to establish a special TV channel for children to teach social values and the social environment in the country. He said his recommendation is aimed at meeting the needs of Kuwaiti children for educational television programs produced locally. In the meantime, MP Talal Al-Sahli proposed the exemption of persons with special needs, who hold identification cards issued by the Handicapped Affairs Authority, from fees in ministries and other government institutions; in addition to electricity, water and landline telephone bills. He pointed out this proposal, once implemented, will help the handicapped cope with the rising cost of living.
