Bahrain has opened bids for the first phase of the Raya Highway Revamp Project in Muharraq region of the kingdom, which is being implemented in three phases.
The scope of work includes redesign of the existing intersections by installing nine traffic lights and providing pedestrian sidewalks in addition to establishment of a rainwater sewage network, lighting and traffic signs and pedestrian barriers for traffic safety, and ground channels for use by services entities to avoid future asphalt cuts, said the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning in a statement.
It also includes the revamp of 1.2 km of the highway - soon after Raya intersection with the Arad Highway at Avenue 13, and opening its intersection with Avenue 38 running about 140 m long.
Announcing the opening of the bids, Tender Board said the submitted bids will be evaluated later and the project will be awarded to the contractor with the lowest bid.
On completion, the highway will turn into a two-lane path, one in each direction, running 6km long, from the entrance of Galali Park near the intersection of Al Hidd highway to the avenue linking it with the North West Busaiteen area.
The project is aimed at contributing to easing the traffic movement and ensuring quicker access to the surrounding areas, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
