AZRAQ (Petra) - The government will provide Azraq residents with state-owned land to build houses for JD1 per plot under a Royal makruma, Prime Minister Nader Dahabi announced on Saturday.

During a visit to Azraq yesterday, the premier said His Majesty King Abdullah recommended that the plots, ranging between 750 to 1,000 square metres in area, be distributed for JD1 each during a meeting last week, although the state property committee estimated their value at JD1,000-JD2,000 per plot.

A total of 758 families will benefit from the Royal makruma, Dahabi noted.

The next land distribution process will take place in Maan in line with the King's directives, he said, reiterating that the government should complete the distribution before the end of this year.

Subsequently, the government will consider other areas, the prime minister added.

At a meeting with Azraq dignitaries and officials yesterday, attended by Minister of Housing and Public Works Alaa Batayneh, Health Minister Nayef Fayez and Zarqa Governor Ahmad Shuyyab, Dahabi was briefed on the needs of Azraq residents.

He noted that following a visit to Azraq last year, the King has been personally following up on the Azraq file to secure area residents with housing and other services.

An ad hoc committee tasked with formulating lists of eligible beneficiaries submitted its recommendations to the state property committee, Dahabi noted, highlighting the government's commitment to provide services to all citizens on an equal footing.

Addressing health needs in the area, the premier promised Azraq inhabitants that the government would provide the area's military hospital with delivery rooms and dialysis units.
