Abu Dhabi, June 20, 2005 (WAM)--The Abu Dhabi University (ADU) unveiled today the master plan of its recently launched world-class campus in Khalifa City.
The campus has been designed to provide students and staff with extensive services and a broad curriculum. The master plan of the campus building was completed on target and received praise by ADU founder and patron, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In total, the campus will occupy around 4 million sq m, with provisions for flexible future expansion.
''Abu Dhabi University is on a journey towards being recognized as one of the premier universities in the UAE and the gulf region Our new campus is definitely a huge step towards its destination,'' said Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, ADU Chairman, Executive Board of Governors.
He added, ''The University caters to students of all nationalities and talents, while providing them with quality education and a firm grounding to help develop their future careers and strengthen their professional skills.'' The new ADU Master Plan has looked into great detail, and includes a future medical teaching facility, a graduate centre, and sports fields. Space also has been allocated for further development of facilities in order to ensure the University meets the needs of students in coming years.
The campus will provide on-site parking for staff and visitors, with adjacent student parking. Separate drive through areas aside the main university buildings will to the arrival and departure of cars and buses, all of which will be divided into separate sections for male and female students.
The University is open to direct access from the Al Ain highway and consequently provides great convenience to students traveling to Khalifa City either from Abu Dhabi, from the nearby international airport, and from Al Ain.
''Motivating students is one of the fundamental challenges facing educators. Creating a well-equipped campus will help establish a stimulating study environment and will certainly prove positive for the psyche of every student and academician.
This venture will encourage personal growth and professional development among the students and staff at ADU,'' according to Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri The new ADU campus will accomodate its first intake of 5000 students for the academic year beginning from September 2006. The first phase of the new campus includes seventy classrooms and laboratoriesequipped with the latest technologies.
A segregated plan for male and female students has been provided for both for instruction and study. The campus includes a 600-seat auditorium, student housing, a student union, a gymnasium, a food court, a student clinic and a library, which will be among the best equipped in the region.
Administrative headquarters, as well as accommodations, will be set-up in the first phase. Teaching staff will be provided with a centrally located office complex, along with support facilities. Located in the central service complex will be main delivery and storage, workshops, offices and accommodations for support staff.
The Abu Dhabi University started its operations for students in September 2003. Engaged in a ongoing process of developing both its physical facilities and campus activities, Abu Dhabi University has campuses both in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
