Multinational electrical equipment manufacturer, ABB, has launched a new facility to produce electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Italy. A total of $30m has been invested in the facility, which covers 16,000 sqm, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2021.

The new facility is further evidence of ABB’s continued commitment to driving innovation in the fast-growing electric vehicle sector. It is set to produce the complete range of ABBs charger models for direct current (DC) electric vehicle batteries, which were recently introduced to the Egyptian market. These include the charger models for passenger cars and mass transport vehicles.

The production facility will also help further support ABB’s growth and innovation in the e-mobility sector, worldwide. It is also looking to significantly contribute to driving the global trend towards eco-friendly forms of transport, a sector that ABB has been leading for nearly a decade.

As global demand for sustainable transport continues to increase, this new facility will ensure that ABB meets this demand, positioning it as the preferred supplier of e-mobility infrastructure solutions, said Frank Mhlon, head of ABBs Global E-Mobility Infrastructure Solutions.
