New York: Lebanese representative at the United Nations Nawwaf Salam called on the UN to curb Israeli violations of the Lebanese sovereignty, stressing Lebanon's commitment to fully implement resolution 1701.
"We believe that the goals and provisions of resolution 1701 are being undermined with every Israeli breach of our airspace and territorial waters as well as with every Israeli attempt to obstruct the demarcation process of the Blue Line," Salam said during the Security Council's session on Tuesday.
He noted Israel's usage of "excessive force" against civilians who demonstrated on May 15, 2011, in south Lebanon, when Israeli forces opened fire on pro-Palestinian protesters.
The council unanimously adopted in the session the renewal for a one-year span of the UNIFIL's mandate operating in south Lebanon.
