Company Committed To Keeping Road Disruption to a Minimum As Its World Class Water Reuse Project Is Implemented
Muscat: Haya Water has restated its commitment to ensuring that roads are restored as quickly as possible to keep traffic disruption to a minimum during the construction of its world class water reuse project across the Muscat Governorate area.
Because of the scale and scope of the project, company contractors are initially only putting in temporary road repairs to ensure that traffic can keep moving as much as possible during the construction work.
Depending on the exact location of the work underway - the company will undertake restoration work to highways and pavements to reflect the specific and most urgent needs of both commercial and residential areas.
It is the first time that a water reuse project of this scale has ever been undertaken in a city as densely populated with so many individual and close-packed properties that need to be connected to the new waste water infrastructure system.
Haya Water is therefore engaging with innovative tunneling technology and working closely with the public and its contractors to reduce any impact on traffic or access to homes as it tackles one of the largest and most complex wastewater projects ever undertaken in the Middle East.
The innovative tunneling technology being used is able to both reduce the impact on roads and disruption above ground and also reduce the amount of dust that gets into the atmosphere and environment during the work.
General Manager for the project, Mr. E Abdul Allah Al-Hashemi explained: "A project of this size and complexity has to be done in carefully managed stages. We are working with our contractors to ensure that where possible after construction and digging work the road is at least temporarily restored to enable cars and other traffic to use the roads.
"Once the project is completed in a whole section we will then fully restore the roads to their former condition which is a quicker and more efficient way to proceed and minimises unnecessary disruption.
"In a number of areas where the project is now locally completed we have been able to undertake the full restoration of the roads and this includes 125km of roads to date in the Al Seeb, Muttrah and Bousher areas."
He added that Haya Water is working in close partnership with Muscat Municipality and preparing regular quarterly status reports about the status of digging and road restoration.
Haya Water has also expressed its thanks for the cooperation and understanding of residents in helping to ensure that contractors can execute the project as smoothly as possible.
The company also has a special customer service centre that is open seven days a week from 6am to 10pm daily and can be called free on 800 77 111 to get up to date details and information about the progress of the project or to have individual concerns or problems addressed.
"Ultimately our aim is to help Muscat become a better city and we are fully committed to achieving that long term aim and helping everyone in the Muscat Governorate area to enjoy a healthier and safer future, with the result of our water reuse project generating treated effluent to be used for the widest range of irrigation purposes," added Mr. E. Abdul Allah Al-Hashmi.
