BEIRUT: Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil announced on Friday that the ministry would reduce subscription fees for electricity by 85 percent to allow citizens settle all their pending matters with Electricite du Liban (EDL).

“This step will encourage citizens to enter the electricity network and even raise their subscriptions from 5 amperes and 10 amperes to 15 amperes and even more without any extra charge,” Bassil told reporters during a press conference.

He added that this measure is part of an overall plan to rehabilitate the electricity sector in Lebanon.

Bassil said that many citizens can’t afford to subscribe to a 15 amperes meter which usually cost LL612,000.

He added that according to the new offer the citizen can subscribe to the 15 amperes for LL90,000. – The Daily Star
