Texas A&M University at Qatar to Graduate Its 200th New Engineer This Week

Engineering University will graduate largest class in its Qatar history and bestow Honorary Doctorate to long-time University and energy industry official and supporter.
DOHA, QATAR -- Texas A&M University at Qatar will graduate 55 new engineers at the University's commencement ceremony this Thursday, 5 May, at 6:30 pm. The event, to be held in the Al-Dafna Hall at the Sheraton Doha Hotel and Resort, will represent a milestone for the University, as it will graduate its 200th new engineer and its 100th Qatari engineer. Texas A&M at Qatar officials at the ceremony will also bestow an Honorary Degree to a long-time University and energy industry official and supporter.

Texas A&M at Qatar Dean and CEO, Dr. Mark H. Weichold, commented on the graduating class, saying, "Texas A&M at Qatar is exceedingly proud of this year's graduates. Commencement is not the end of their journey, but the beginning, and we are confident this class will become leaders in their field and dedicate themselves to lifelong learning. While they have accomplished a great deal in the past four years, it is important for them to remember why they came to study here; they were bold students who wanted to make a difference in Qatar, the region and the world by finding new ways to solve problems and creating new knowledge to improve the world around them. We expect remarkable things from them."

The May 2011 graduating class is diverse, featuring eight chemical engineers, 13 electrical engineers, 14 mechanical engineers and 20 petroleum engineers. The graduating class is 30 percent female and represents 16 countries.

Chemical engineering graduate, Mary Anna Katebah, said, "The moment we've been all waiting for has finally arrived. Texas A&M at Qatar has given me the best opportunity I could have ever imagined. From the best education, to the best memories, the University has prepared me to do absolutely anything I want after graduation. It has taught me that the only limits I have are the limits I place on myself. If there is one thing I am most certain about, it is knowing that every single graduate is more than ready to show the world how successful our Aggie engineers are."

Wael Halbawi, electrical engineering graduate, said, "Texas A&M at Qatar is where I met great people from whom I learnt a lot and had a lot of fun with. I'm very excited about graduation and after May 5th, I'm ready to face the world!"

"Thanks to Texas A&M at Qatar for being a second home. Thanks to Texas A&M at Qatar for giving me the great knowledge to become an engineer. Thanks to Texas A&M for introducing me to amazing people and new friends, and thanks to Texas A&M for four wonderful years," said Asma Al-Enazi, electrical engineering graduate.
