The average revenue per user (Arpu) in the UAE stood at $42 (Dh154.2) per month in the fourth quarter of 2009, behind Kuwait's $52 per month for the same period, according to the latest market analysis published yesterday by Dataxis Intelligence.
The Middle East is one of the most dynamic mobile phone markets in the world with a 23 per cent increase in subscriber base and 12 per cent uptake of revenues in 2009, the report said. The region also has one of the highest mobile Arpu, with an average of $20 during 2009, behind North America and Europe, it pointed out.
Despite the fact that more than half of the region's 13 countries surveyed generate a higher Arpu than the European average of $23, the region still holds huge potential for firms offering mobile services.
Especially noteworthy are Iraq, Iran and Yemen, which had an Arpu below the worldwide average of $16 per month.
