Damascus, (SANA) - The Syrian-Russian business council for Russian companies working in the fields of petroleum, gas and chemistry was convened on Wednesday at Palais des Nobles to review their activities.

Minister of Petroleum Sufian al-Alaw stated that cooperation between Syria and the Russian Federation in the fields of petroleum and gas has been going on since the sixties through the cooperation of Russian companies with the Syrian Gas Company and the Syrian Petroleum Company, with Russian companies currently establishing two gas-processing plants and working on the Arab gas pipeline, in addition to excavating in locations offered by the ministry for investment.

The minister pointed out to Syria's strategic geographic position and its political and social stability, which encourage investors especially in the fields of petroleum and gas industries. He added that the ministry's plans aim to increase production through expansion of prospecting across Syria and its regional waters and the development of existing oil fields and the refining industry.

The Russian companies gave a presentation on their activities and expertise in the various fields related to petroleum and gas, followed by reviewing experiences and exchanging viewpoints, ideas and theories among experts and participants from both sides.
