KUWAIT: The country's development plan has been in the execution phase for almost two years , stated Fadhel Al-Safar, the minister of public works. He was speaking during the launch of the Kuwaiti and International Real Estate Exhibition 2012 on Sunday at the Regency Hotel. This event is being organized by ExpoCity and will last until Wednesday. He outlined the projects in the pipeline, "The public sector depends on local contractors and real-estate sector in giving a new lease of life to projects, in addition to projects undertaken in cooperation with international and Kuwaiti real estate businessmen.
These projects are in the initial stages now. However, when nearing completion, the demand for aluminum, glass, metal, cement and other building materials will increase. The housing and service-oriented projects will demand more construction and building materials as well.
He asserted that the Municipality conducts periodic inspections. "In case violations are detected, the offender's license is revoked . The law will be enforced equally," added Safar. New residential cities, Build-Operate-Transfer(BOT) projects, and other construction projects will be executed. "For instance, the foundations for the new Kheiran City, Sabah Al-Ahmad City or metro project are being laid. The economic feasibility study of the metro project is done by an international advisor. It will be ready
in less than seven months," he pointed out.
The metro rail network will be constructed in 'three lines,' which will be built partially underground and above the ground as well. "The first line will begin at Salwa passing and ending downtown. The second line will start from south Surra connecting the Airport and ending in the capital. The third line will start from the western areas such as Farwaniya and Sulabikhat, finally ending in Kuwait City. The next stage of the project will come later, after the first trains are flagged off," explained S
afar.
The Public Authority for Housing Welfare will conduct feasibility studies on constructing new homes, "As the government ensures that new homes be built for citizens, the Institution has specified that some lands be allotted for this purpose. There is also the second phase of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port that should be completed," he noted.
Various recycling and sewage projects will be executed with the aim of protecting the environment. "Currently there is the Um Al-Haiman project, the expansion of the Sulaibiya Station, launching the Mishrif, Aqeela and Riqai stations. These are the country's main stations. In order to recycle domestic waste, three chosen locations and another one in Jahara will be designated. This project will treat the waste, either by recycling or burning a part of it and generating electricity. Finally, organic waste
will be reused for agriculture purposes," stressed Safar.
The Kuwait International Airport will be expanded in the near future. "A second passengers terminal number will be constructed. It will be designed beginning next year. The execution phase is expected to last three years. This project will increase the capacity of the Kuwait Airport to accommodate 20 million passengers every year," he concluded.
At least 15 real estate companies have made their presence felt in this exhibition. "This year, the Ministry of Commerce set strict conditions for participation. Only authorized companies that have a long-standing reputation in the market are here today," Hussain Haji, head of Marketing and Assistant General Manager of Dar Al-Kawthar Real Estate, ExpoCity's sister concern told Kuwait Times.
