Abu Dhabi, Jan 24th, 2012 (WAM) -- Over 3.4 million passengers passed through the Gweifat border-crossing between UAE and Saudi Arabia during last year, according to figures released by the Security and ports affairs directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police.

A total of 2.2million vehicles also crossed the boarders between the two countries, showed the statistical report.

Deputy Chief of the Security Police at Ghweifat Major Rashid Hamdan Naqbi said that the number of departures stood at 1.7million while the arrivals totalled slightly lower.

The highest numbers of passengers were recorded during July, August and September due to the travelling by land into the countries in the region.

The number of Haj pilgrims who passed through the border-crossing last season stood at 20100, showed the report.
