Muscat: Of recent, corporate houses across the Sultanate have been actively incorporating Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives into their core business model in an effort to create social awareness among the community. From this standpoint, Oman Shipping Company SAOC, the leading national carrier of Oman for sea transportation business, announced its participation in the First Volunteer Expo in Oman to be held on 5-7 December 2011 at the Oman International Exhibition Center.

Hana Al Wahaibi, Communications Officer, commended the initiative of holding the Volunteer Expo for the first time in the Sultanate with aims of enhancing the visibility of CSR and disseminating good practices, and further encouraging similar initiatives in the future. "Through our participation at the Volunteer Expo 2011, we endeavour to explore and examine the pioneering CSR initiatives undertaken by the various organisations in the country as well as highlight our future plans backed with the aspiration to create partnerships with the government, NGOs and individuals," Hana Al Wahaibi said.   

According to Nicholas Fisher, CEO at Oman Shipping Company, OSC believes that fulfilling social responsibility in the community leads to a positive contribution towards creating a better society. As a part of its CSR activity, Oman Shipping Company is already offering 100 sea training positions a year on board Oman Shipping Company's vessels to the cadets from the International Maritime College (IMCO) at Sohar.   

The Volunteer Expo 2011 aims at enabling vibrant and strong CSR activities across Oman through attracting high ranking government officials and representatives; company presidents, chairmen, VPs, managing directors, general managers; CSR managers from various industries; local, regional and international heads of volunteer associations; planning project manager / directors; road and traffic consultants; health and safety managers / coordinators; team leaders; project managers; marketing and advertising managers; emergency services providers; academia / students; Non-Government Organisations, and others.
