CAIRO, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- The 87th meeting of Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) kicked off here on Saturday, under chairmanship of Bahraini Minister of Energy Abd Al-Husayn Mirza.
The cartel began its meeting with honoring winners of OAPEC's 2010 scientific research award which was on the usage of latest technologies in oil exploration and production in the Arab region and its economic outcome.
It approved the secretariat and judicial authority 2012 budgets that estimated to reach kD 2.086.310. It also agreed on appointing an audit bureau for the two bodies' budgets for that same year. The gathering reviewed OAPEC activities throughout 2011 regarding various environment and climate change related issues. It also discussed a report of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the Kyoto Protocol.
It also tackled a report on economic and technical related research and activities of seminar and conferences that were held throughout 2010.
Kuwait's Oil Minister and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Mohammad Al-Busairi, who is leading the country's delegation to the meeting, lauded during the opening session all exerted efforts that contributed in activating OAPEC's role by increasing the level of cooperation amongst its members.
He stressed on Kuwait's dedication on being actively involved in this organization by submitting research and holding OAPEC related seminars and meetings.
The Kuwaiti delegation to this event included Kuwaiti ambassador to Egypt Dr. Rashid Al-Hamad and officials from the Kuwait oil industry.
