A high-profile delegation from the Kingdom of Bahrains Ministry of Information Affairs visited the National Media Councils (NMC) headquarters in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

The delegation, headed by the Bahraini Ministrys Information Affairs Undersecretary His Excellency Abdul Rahman Mohammed Bahr, was greeted by NMC Director General H.E. Mansour Al Mansouri. The visit reflects the strong bonds between the two Gulf states and brings together influential media-sector decision makers from both countries to explore opportunities to cooperate and exchange ideas and insight, working to empower the media industry, remain on top of emerging trends and study the medias potential to raise awareness in society and encourage people to participate in sustainable development.

H.E. Al Mansouri highlighted to his Bahraini counterpart how the NMC offers its support to all media institutions and government bodies in the UAE, and works to reflect the Emirates experiences around the world. The visiting delegation was also briefed about the National Media Councils role in developing a national strategy to promote the media sector in the UAE, reflecting the best possible image of the country and maintain its distinguished status.

The visit to the National Media Council aligns with our strategic objective to explore all the latest media-related innovations and best practices namely, those being implemented in the UAE, a fellow Gulf country, said Abdul Rahman Mohammed Bahr. We are confident that this visit will further strengthen Emirati-Bahraini ties in the media sector, which is ideally poised to wield great positive impact on our communities. 

The delegation paid a visit to the Emirates New Agency (WAM), where they were introduced to the latest media practices and technologies the agency is implementing, including Smart Reporter, which allows reporters to send news articles and have them immediately published locally and internationally. Another such application is Live WAM, an interactive service that allows audiences around the world to access the latest updates in real time. The visit was then concluded by a stop at Al Ittihad newspaper and Sky News Arabia TV channel.

National Media Council (NMC) is an independent federal body established in 2006. Its role is characterized in the development of a national strategy for the development of the media sector in the United Arab Emirates and its positive image.

NMC is devoted to maintain UAE outstanding position at various levels and ensure the integration of roles to achieve an enlightened national media. Its message is based on Emirates Fundamentals that are characterized in moderation and tolerance.

Moreover, the Council prepares the necessary regulations, standards and foundations related to the work, licensing and accreditation of the media companies and their employees, as well as the preparation of the necessary regulations and standards to regulate the media and electronic publishing.

NMC coordinates with the Free Zones media authorities to develop a regulatory framework for the relationship between the two parties.

Furthermore, the Council, throughout Emirates News Agency (WAM) covers all the political, social, cultural and sport events whether nationally or internationally. It provides the news coverage and its distribution on different local media networks and the participants from abroad as well as broadcasting the state news in Arabic, English and French from 8:00 am until 1:00 am.
