Japanese companies have so far agreed more than US$11bn worth of deals for projects in the sultanate during 2011 alone and could well be looking to establish national offices in Oman, according to Japanese Ambassador to Oman H E Seiji Morimoto.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, H E Morimoto said the year had seen a range of investment from Japanese companies in development projects such as those in Barka, Sur and Sohar.

He anticipates the relatively small Japanese expat community to grow as more companies open offices in the sultanate to deliver the projects. "At the moment we have 11 companies with interests in Oman and I expect some companies to set up branches here because of the projects."
