AQABA (Petra) - HRH Princess Basma, president of the National Goodwill Campaign Higher Committee, on Monday highlighted the ability of public-private partnerships to improve the lives of citizens.
During a tour of Aqaba yesterday, the Princess said the campaign is committed to continuing its services to support underprivileged citizens in the governorate, despite the economic and social challenges facing the Kingdom.
She commended the institutional development in the field of charity work by societies and the private sector in Aqaba, underscoring the need for charitable entities to reach out to remote communities that lack access to basic services.
During yesterday's visit, two memoranda of understanding were signed between the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC).
Under one memo, signed by JOHUD Deputy Executive Director and Programme Manager Salma Attiyeh and Nasima Fakhri, ASEZA commissioner for development affairs, the authority will provide JOHUD with JD30,000 for various activities in Aqaba.
The second agreement, signed by Attiyeh and ADC CEO Mohammad Salem Turk, entails supporting existing rural markets established by JOHUD and holding an annual rural market with the participation of women from Aqaba and the surrounding areas.
Also yesterday, Princess Basma presented income-generating projects to 18 families from Wadi Araba and villages in the greater Aqaba area.
She also inaugurated a rural market at the Princess Basma Centre in Aqaba. The market, held with the support of ADC, showcased foods and handicrafts made by women from the centre.
