· Announces additional contribution of AED 62 million underlining Emaar's corporate social responsibility

Dubai, UAE - Emaar Properties PJSC today announced an additional contribution of AED 62 million to Sandooq Al Watan, the philanthropic fund set up by Emirati entrepreneurs and the private sector to boost social entrepreneurship and nurture UAE youth talents. One of the largest contributors to Sandooq Al Watan, Emaar had earlier contributed AED 84 million, taking its total monetary commitment for the national initiative to AED 146 million during 2016/17.

Sandooq Al Watan has been instituted to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Maktoum Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to prepare the nation for the post-oil era by nurturing national talents, promoting social enterprises, and building a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

The additional contribution further underlines Emaar’s support to the ‘Year of Giving’ announced by UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the national-level priorities announced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to promote a culture of volunteering and to boost private sector participation in promoting young talents.

Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties, announced the additional contribution at a press conference today in Dubai, attended by Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Chairman of Sandooq Al Watan, and other senior officials.

Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim congratulated Emaar Properties for the generous support and its efforts to provide a brighter future for the coming generations. He thanked Emaar for providing the right environment for Sandooq Al Watan to achieve its objectives and strategic plans to empower national talent and encourage applied research that will drive progress and prosperity, and build a sustainable knowledge economy for future generations. “Emaar is a model for success and has set a proud example of corporate social responsibility by investing in creating a better future for our country and providing the highest levels of prosperity for our community.”

Alabbar said: “The private sector has benefited tremendously from governmental support, and it is time for us to give back to our nation. As we prepare for the post-oil era, it is important to invest in our country’s most powerful resource – our talented youth. We must create the infrastructure to nurture their talents and support them to become successful entrepreneurs, who in turn contribute to our nation’s sustained progress and prosperity. Sandooq Al Watan is a powerful initiative that sets the foundations for a future generation of Emirati entrepreneurs, and we see our support to the fund as a part of our corporate social responsibility to our nation, our leadership and the community.”

Emaar is a founding supporter of Sandooq Al Watan, an initiative that reflects the national development priorities of the leadership. It aims to strengthen community participation and national unity to build a brighter future for the nation and its coming generations.

Sandooq Al Watan works with the private sector to create a platform that motivates the youth. It has announced the launch of its Future Initiative that will support the building of a knowledge economy by adopting innovative ideas and supporting them to become competitive enterprises. To be implemented in phases, the initiative aims to create a new generation of UAE National companies that will support the building of the economy of the future.
