United Arab Emirates, Dubai, March 20, 2012: A delegation representing Dubai, headed by H.E. Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid,  Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, recently visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to attend the 'International Medical Tourism, Wellness & Spa Congress 2012,' that took place in the dead sea area.

The two day conference, which concluded today, attracted over 350 experts, specialists, representatives from the medical tourism field and insurance companies from across the world.

H.E. Al Murooshid said that Dubai's participation in this global conference comes as part of the emirate's strategy to support medical tourism.  "Observing the experiences and expertise of others and exchanging constructive ideas in the field of medical tourism is important for the growth of this sector. This knowledge will then be used to fortify the position that the Emirate of Dubai has come to hold in this sector, particularly since the medical tourism industry has became a sector of interest and all countries around the world are keen to support the growth of this sector."

H.E. Al Murooshid said that the conference discussed a number of topics concerning medical tourism, its future, medical technology, health insurance, global healthcare and the various aspects relating to the medical tourism sector.

Al Murooshid added that the UAE and Dubai in particular, has come a long way in terms of developing healthcare services provided by both the public and private sector, gaining international accreditations for medical, healthcare, and preventive services and all these efforts will reinforce the country's position on the global medical tourism map.

Attending the conference as part of the Dubai delegation, alongside H.E. Al Murooshid were Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director of Dubai Healthcare City, Laila Al Jassmi, CEO of the Health Policy and Strategy Sector, Dr. Ahmed Al Kamali, Consultant and Head of Pediatrics at Dubai Hospital, Dr. Shaheenah Dawood, Consultant and Head of Oncology at Dubai Hospital, Hamad Matar Al Falasi, Head of Overseas Treatment Office and Ghanim Abdullah Lootah, Head of Events Section, Institutional Marketing and Communications Department at the DHA.

About the Dubai Health Authority:
Initially, the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS), which was created in 1973, was the functioning authority that almost exclusively focused on health service delivery.
