BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion will give away free coffees at Caribou stores across the UAE to BlackBerry smartphone users into stores at Dubai International Financial City, Dubai Mall, Times Square and The Greens, the company said today.
"The first 3,000 users to arrive and display their own BlackBerry smartphone will be offered a Caribou loyalty card with a complimentary coffee and free donuts," RIM's press statement said.
"Customers will also go into the draw each Thursday [for next three Thursdays] to win one of the latest BlackBerry smartphones, as well as designer skins," it added.
BlackBerry survived an announced ban by the UAE's Telecom Regulatory Authority by the proverbial whisker when, less than 48 hours before a ban on certain Blackberry services was to come into force in the country, the handset manufacturer announced entering into a deal with UAE authorities.
Although the details of the deal aren't disclosed, it is believed that BlackBerry blinked in the standoff with the TRA, and may have provided access to some of its previously inaccessible data to UAE authorities, which had raised security concerns about some of its services.
