Muscat - BP Oman signed an agreement with Nafath Energy, as part of BP’s Social Investment Programme (SIP), to help bolster interest and understanding of renewable energy amongst students studying at college and university. This latest SIP initiative is set to educate 100 students through workshops held by Nafath Energy. The agreement was signed by Shabib al Maamari, Communication and External Affairs Manager, BP Oman, and Abdullah al Saidi, CEO of Nafath Energy.

Nafath Energy will provide two five-day workshops to college and university students in Al Dakhiliyah  and Al Dhahirah. Students will learn about the various energy sources, the renewables industry in Oman, the latest developments in solar and wind power and have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the design and installation of a hybrid renewable energy system. Shabib al Maamari commented on the agreement, saying: “BP Oman is supporting this initiative as part of our vision to develop young Omanis and local Omani companies. In this energy intensive world, we’re keen to encourage the next generation to understand the role of renewable energy sources — it’s just one of the ways we are investing in the future of Oman.”

Abdullah al Saidi adds, “We’re very pleased to partner with BP Oman to inspire students who will be as passionate as we are about developing new energy sources for the future.”

With the start of a number of initiatives for this year, the BP Oman’s Social Investment Programme is now in its third year and has benefited around 30,000 young people, communities and businesses in Oman. The goal of the programme is to invest in initiatives that support education, enterprise development and energy sustainability.
