DUBAI: Acting Minister of Health Abdul Rehman Al-Owais, who is also Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, will represent the UAE to the Sixty-fifth session of the World Health Assembly which started today in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations in Geneva Obaid Salim Al-Za'abi and senior health officials are also taking part in the meetings which run to May 26.

At this session, the Health Assembly will discuss a number of public health issues and matters such as the budget, administration and management of World Health Organization (WHO).

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of WHO. It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget.
