Abu Dhabi - The Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the New England Centre for Children -- Abu Dhabi (NECC) to intensify collaboration in the development and design of academic programs that support the field of special education. The MOU was signed by NECC Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Mr. Vincent Strully, Jr. on behalf of NECC- Abu Dhabi, and Professor Robert Milne, Acting Vice Chancellor of ECAE.

The signing ceremony was attended by HE Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations at Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), a number of specialized professionals in autism and special needs from NECC- Abu Dhabi, a numberof teachers and academic professionals from ADEC, in addition to ECAE senior management, program chairs, division heads, students and staff.

The MOU commits both entities to collaborate in research, and to take part in the professional development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and UAE as a whole. The agreement also provides opportunities for intensive practicum placement for ECAE students enrolled in the Applied Behavior Analysis concentration.

The ceremony commenced with a welcoming message from Professor Robert Milne, Acting Vice Chancellor of ECAE, followed by a presentation by Mr. L. Vincent Strully, CEO and founder of NECC - Abu Dhabi and Dr. Daniel Gould, Chief Clinical Officer at NECC, where they introduced an overview of their establishment, development and practices. The ceremony also included a presentation by ECAE faculty members about the ABA concentration at the college.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the memorandum of understanding, during which Mr. L. Vincent Strully expressed saying: I am very pleased with this educational partnership between the two institutions, which in turn will increase the number of qualified and trained professionals dealing with children of special needs".  Professor Robert Milne shared a similar opinion regarding the value of such partnership saying: "ECAE is very glad to have the opportunity to work closer with the New England Center for Children. Both organizations share a common interest in developing the skills and experience to utilize applied behavior analysis within the educational environment in Abu Dhabi." He also added: "This MOU is a big step in the direction of providing more personnel with the knowledge and skills to improve the lives of both the children and their families".

HE Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations atADEC praised such joint cooperation between different educationalinstitutions saying:"It is our duty to provide the best tools and educational practices for students from different ages, cycles and with different intellectual capabilities. ADEC puts great emphasis on supporting students with special needs, particularly autism, by working on providing the ideal environment and qualified teachers, and by equipping schools with the latest devices and equipment that will help them with a successful merge into the community."He also showed appreciation towards the cooperation between ECAE and NECC - Abu Dhabi, and praised the joint efforts and collaboration aiming at enhancingthe skills of the students and the exchange of expertise and academic knowledge between both institutions.

In a similar context, The Behavior Analyst Certification Board has earlier approved the course sequence that was submitted from ECAE as meeting the coursework requirement for taking the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) examination under the 4th Edition requirements. ECAE is the first institution in the UAE to have a BACB-approved course sequence (ACS).  BCBA has also approved ECAE as the Type-2 Approved Continuing Education (ACE) provider.
