Reckless drivers of heavy vehicles in Umm Al Quwain, beware. The police here have developed new radars to detect violations committed by truck and bus drivers.

Col. Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director of the traffic and patrols department, UAQ Police, said the new radars have proven to be efficient in detecting all relevant violations during the trial stage.

"The sophisticated radars shall be installed on all the roads of the emirate," he said.

These radars are "not only flexible", but have been equipped with cameras that can capture high definition images, he added. "The UAQ Police are keen on diversifying all the monitoring and detecting devices to penalise errant drivers and ensure road users' safety."

The new radars shall be activated in the beginning of November, he disclosed.

"All drivers are urged to be more focused and cautious on the road, and observe traffic rules."

Poor overtaking and lane change have been blamed for several road accidents here, he underlined. "More traffic patrols shall also be deployed to curb reckless drivers."
