Abu Dhabi is getting its own pop culture event. The people behind the massively successful Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) and Games Middle East, both in Dubai, are launching Ani:me, dedicated to Japanese anime, manga, cinema, music, games, fashion and food, from October 27 to 29 at du Forum on Yas Island.

The three-day event will showcase some of the biggest J-Pop/Rock bands, ‘anisong legends’ (yes, it’s a thing a.k.a. music from anime movies and games) and creators of some of the most popular anime and manga titles, along with voice talent, cosplayers and artists from the world of video games. Visitors will also be able to explore and experience Japanese culture including calligraphy, traditional sword fighting, art and amezaiku candy making in the Japan Culture Village alongside fashion and food.

Cosplay (costume play) will also be a major component at the event and will see the best cosplayer win a trip to Japan to compete in the world finals of the World Cosplay Summit.

“The Ani:me Festival will be an immersive experience, with every element, act and exhibitor encompassing the theme. So whether you want to meet some of your manga creator heroes, or just enjoy a fun and fascinating weekend, Ani:me in October has it all covered,” said Arafaat Ali Khan, director of communications at The Alliance, the organisers.

Details of guests, activities and events will be announced soon along with ticket availability. More on animeabudhabi.com
