Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital, the 134-bed facility that is part of Mediclinic Middle East, is currently undergoing an expansion to 250 beds and investment to further cement its status as one of the leading tertiary hospitals in Abu Dhabi. This project is due to be completed during the first quarter of 2020 and is aimed at enhancing the provision of healthcare services, and contributing to the development of the healthcare sector in Abu Dhabi.

David Hadley, Chief Executive Officer at Mediclinic Middle East, said: “We are committed to refining the healthcare services Mediclinic provides to the community of Abu Dhabi in line with the Department of Health’s guidelines and vision. The expansion project will be home to a number of centres of excellence in major areas of healthcare, in addition to a Comprehensive Cancer Centre which will position Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital as a leading private tertiary referral centre in Abu Dhabi. Overall, the work we are carrying out will increase the size of the main hospital by almost two and a half times the current floor space.”

Like the Comprehensive Cancer Centre which recently opened at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai, the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital will be built in collaboration with Mediclinic Middle East’s affiliated division in Switzerland, Hirslanden, with patients able to benefit from the sharing of knowledge and experience between some of the leading oncology experts in Europe and the Middle East, as well as gain access to the very latest treatment programmes and technology. The new centre will offer radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and chemotherapy services.

Joe Hazel, Hospital Director at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital, said: “We continue to upgrade our existing facilities throughout the 134-bed hospital. These projects include the upgrade of the Dialysis Unit, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Unit, the medical, paediatrics, maternity and surgical wards, the lobby, the other public areas across the hospital and the new Breast Imaging Unit. With the new extension on track to open in the first quarter of 2020, patients will be able to receive all the care they need under one roof, with services varying from the treatment of common ailments to more complex conditions that require specialist medical care.”
