Dubai, UAE; - Emirates Post will be hosting a total of 155 students from the Lycee Francais International Georges Pompidou throughout the month of January as part of its educational and community outreach efforts. Today, Emirates Post welcomed the first wave of students – 26 excited six-year-olds eager to learn about a letter’s journey.

Students arrive with pre-written letters and greeting cards addressed to a family member or friend residing in their country of choice. Destinations include France, Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, Australia, and Thailand to name a few. The tour begins with a visit to the Al Ramool Post Office counter to purchase stamps and affix them on the enveloped letters. Students then continue to drop their letters into the mailbox located at the entrance.

The interactive tour continues to show the journey of what happens to their letters. Students help in emptying the letters from the mailbox into a dedicated transport bag and carry it to the sorting center around the corner. The envelopes are first sorted manually according to size then sorted by the post’s top-of-the-line electronic smart machine that scans the addresses and sorts them into electronic lockers that correspond to the destination. This smart machine can sort through an average of 35,000 letters an hour. Students are then walked through the rest of the journey: our partnership with the Universal Postal Union, the process of transportation by dedicated courier vehicles up until their letter reaches its intended recipient.

“It is important to highlight the role mail plays in our daily lives and by educating students on the journey of letters from mailbox to post office to mailbox, we reinforce the critical importance of communication in the functioning of a community, in the sharing of cultures and the bridging of distances between loved ones,” said Mr. Obaid Mohammed Al Qatami, EPG’s Acting Chief Commercial Officer, “it is a joy to share in the children’s excitement as they post their letters and learn more about how throughout history the post has shaped the progress of nations.”
