UAE – Leading international law firm Baker McKenzie Habib Al Mulla is pleased to announce that the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has designated Dr. Habib Al Mulla, the Firm's Executive Chairman in the UAE and Chairman of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre's Board of Trustees, to serve on the Panel of Arbitrators maintained by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

One of the five organizations of the World Bank Group, ICSID is an autonomous international arbitration institution providing facilities for conciliation and arbitration of international investment disputes. As the premier go-to forum for cases that grapple with complex issues, ICSID jurisprudence has defined international investment law for over 50 years.

As a signatory to the ICSID Convention, the UAE is entitled to designate up to four people to ICSID's Panel of Arbitrators, whose members are chosen from the highest echelons of the international legal community.

Dr. Habib Al Mulla commented: "The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes plays a vital role in the field of international investment and economic development, and I am incredibly honoured to have been appointed as an arbitrator for this highly distinguished institution."

"We are very pleased that Dr. Habib Al Mulla, an eminent member of Baker McKenzie's global Arbitration group and one of the UAE’s most highly respected legal authorities, has received this appointment. It is a reflection of the well-placed faith in his ability and qualities," said Mr. Leng Sun Chan SC, global head of Baker McKenzie's Arbitration Group, based in Singapore.

Dr. Al Mulla's appointment, pursuant to the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States, is for a period of six years extending through March 12, 2024.
