MANAMA: Legal measures will be taken against social media users who violate people’s privacy.

Violators convicted of infringing upon people’s lives will be sentenced from three months to one year in prison and fined between $1326 and $2652 (BD500 and BD1,000).

The Cabinet, chaired by HRH the Premier, yesterday endorsed and referred the amended provisions of the penal code to parliament during its regular weekly session, based on a proposal submitted by the Shura Council. Thus, anyone who publishes, by any means, fake or correct news or posts photos or comments that violate people’s privacy or family lives, or sully their reputation, will face legal action.
