Ramadan 2019: Timings for government offices in Dubai

The holy month of Ramadan is likely to begin on May 6 in most of the Islamic nations, according to the International Astronomical Centre. Ramadan is a holy month for the world's nearly 1.5 billion Muslims, many of whom practise the ritual of dawn-to-dusk fasting and prayers.

Public and private sector timings

In UAE, the government has reduced working hours for the public and private sector for Ramadan. According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, working hours for the public sector employees will be from 9am until 2pm across the UAE, whereas working hours for the private sector have been shortened by two hours.

Parking timings

Parking during Iftar across paid zones in UAE will be free. The paid parking zones in Dubai will be operational from 8am to 6pm and from 8pm to midnight during Ramadan, it was announced on Tuesday. At Tecom, the tariff will apply from 8am to 6pm, while in the multi-level parking lots, the fees will be applicable 24/7 (read detailed report).

School timings

Students in UAE will have shorter school days during Ramadan. The school day during Ramadan will start between 8:00 to 8:30am and finish between 1:00 to 1:30pm, with shorter breaks as required. Schools should ensure that the total hours at school per day for students do not exceed five hours.

Malls, food courts timings

According to Visit Dubai, major malls will continue to operate throughout Ramadan, with extended late-night operating hours to accommodate those fasting between sunrise and sundown. Malls will remain open until 1am on weekdays and until 2am on weekends. They also reminded mallgoers that some smaller boutiques and small businesses may choose to close during the day and reopen after sunset.

Public transport timings

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced changes to the business hours of all its services during the holy month of Ramadan. RTA services affected by Ramadan timing include customers' happiness centres, paid parking zones, public buses, Dubai Metro and Tram, marine transit modes, and service-provider centres (technical testing).
